Our Story

The Founding Story of Hunt for Peace: A Legacy of Light

On February 4, 2025, the world dimmed for Chamberlyn Smith when her big brother, Hunter Kilcrease, took his own life. Hunter wasn’t just a brother—he was a force of nature, a vibrant soul who lit up every room he entered. With a grin that could melt ice and a “Hi, friend!” for everyone he met, Hunter never knew a stranger. He was the kind of person who’d take apart a gadget just to see its secrets, then put it back together better than before—always tinkering, always improving. Brilliant and curious, he loved understanding how the world worked, but what he loved even more was people. As a brother and friend, Hunter was unmatched—selfless, steady, the guy who’d text you twice a day just to say, “Hey, I’m thinking about you.” He put others first, always checking in, always lifting spirits. But beneath his bright exterior, Hunter carried a quiet storm, one that overwhelmed him in the end.

In the raw, aching days that followed, Chamberlyn couldn’t shake the question: How could someone so full of life feel so alone? Grief could have swallowed her whole, but instead, it ignited a spark. Hunter’s light wasn’t gone—it was a torch she could carry forward. On March 30, 2025, in their hometown of Burleson, Texas, Chamberlyn founded Hunt for Peace, a nonprofit born from loss but built on hope. She wasn’t just mourning her brother; she was channeling his spirit to save others from the darkness that claimed him.

Hunt for Peace isn’t about fixing everything—it’s about reaching “one more.” One more person to find a friend, one more soul to see their worth, one more heart to step back from the edge. Chamberlyn knew Hunter’s magic lay in connection—those daily check-ins, those instant friendships—so she made that the heartbeat of the mission. The launch was a bold leap: a podcast filled with raw, relatable stories of struggle and triumph, paired with an online community where people could find their tribe. It was Hunter’s voice in a new form—welcoming, warm, and real.

Hunter’s legacy pulses through every piece of Hunt for Peace. He was the friend who’d pull you into a hug before you even knew you needed one, the brother who’d drop everything to listen. Now, through inspirational podcasts, community events like painting nights or hiking meetups, and support groups tied to hobbies, Hunt for Peace recreates that magic. Picture a pottery class where strangers become confidants over clay, or a chat room where gamers trade tips and tears—each moment a tribute to Hunter’s knack for bringing people together. Chamberlyn’s vision is simple but profound: no one should face their battles alone, not when a “Hi, friend!” could change everything.

Today, Hunt for Peace stands as a testament to a brother’s love and a sister’s resolve. It’s not about erasing pain—it’s about planting seeds of joy, connection, and purpose in its place. Hunter Kilcrease was a gift, a whirlwind of kindness and curiosity who left too soon. But through Hunt for Peace, his light keeps shining, whispering to anyone who’ll listen: You’re not alone. You’re enough. And we’re here to help one more—just like Hunter would. In every laugh shared, every hand extended, his spirit lives on, proving that even in the darkest moments, peace is worth the hunt.
